Recent Press release from China Insurance Regulatory Commission (CIRC) reveals that the total premiums collected by insurance companies in China increased by 14% to RMB 470 billion as at the end of October 2006. Capital gains reached RMB 65.12 billion with an annual rate of return of 4.24%, an increase of 1.34% compared to the same period last year. According to CIRC’s estimation, insurance premiums will rise to over RMB 500 billion for the whole year of 2006.
For the first 10 months of 2006, the finest collected from property and casualty insurance products by insurance companies reached RMB 125.86 billion, an increase of 20.7% compared to the analogous period last year. Life insurance premiums increased 11% to RMB 299.64 billion while health insurance premiums rose to RMB 30.48 billion. Accident insurance premiums went up to RMB 14.04 billion.
Aggregate insurance funds increased 18.6% to approximately RMB 1.67 trillion as at the end of October 2006, out of which, 32.7% of the total were term deposits and 55.89% were invested in fixed income securities, an increase of 3.24% compared to the same
